10-Jul-2022:
Started an online application form on the government website, completed Part-A and Part-B. Sourced all the mandatory documents before starting the process which made the application process relatively easy. Pls note- Some of the documents require notary attestation, so plan well in advance
11-Jul-2022:
Downloaded the checklist of documents that needs to be sent from the VFS Global website & arranged them in order of the checklist.
12-Jul-2022:
Mailed the entire set of documents and with the checklist as the cover. Photographs of kid was also attached to the application using a U-pin (make sure you don’t paste/affix the photograph). We opted for the two-way Fedex courier labels which is the default option on the VFS global website for OCI applications
14-Jul-2022:
Received an email – “We have ‘Received’ your Application and your application is now ‘Under Process’ at Chicago and will be submitted to the Mission for decision making. Upon checking the VFS global website using the ‘Track and Trace’ page, the message stated – “Your application is being verified and currently under process at the VFS Indian Consular Application Center”
15-Jul-2022:
Received an email – “Your Application has been ‘Processed’ at the VFS India Consular application Centre and currently is ‘In-Transit‘ to the Embassy of India/Consulate General of India for decision making.
16-Jul-2022:
Upon checking the Online OCI Services website – ‘Status Enquiry’ link, it shows the application name, file reference number, date of acknowledgment (16-Jul-2022 in my case), registration missing, OCI Application status = ‘Under Process’
08-Aug-2022:
OCI STATUS REPORT page was updated with OCI Number and ‘Document Printing Status’ showed PROCESSED on 08-Aug-2022
09-Aug-2022:
Received an email - “Your Application has been reviewed by the Embassy of India/ Consulate General of India & will be dispatched using the courier service you had opted.”
Upon checking the VFS Global Website using the ‘Track and Trace’ feature ,the status got updated to “Your document (s) is dispatched using the return label purchased or sent by you. If using VFS courier, please check for email from "[email protected]" for details. If you have used your prepaid label, then track the status via the website of the concerned service provider.
09-Aug-2022:
Fedex Shipment number and tracking id numbers were generated and an email was received on my registered email id.
10-Aug-2022:
Received OCI card at my residence 😊 just before India’s 75th Independence Day
Total Process time – Exactly 1 month [little over ~4 weeks].
Thoroughly impressed by the speed of the process from the Indian Government. Kudos! Jai Hind!
