OCI Card Processing Time (in Atlanta, USA)
Total 27 days from the day of mailing my documents to the Consulate office in Atlanta. My document were delivered there on the same day due to my location. It is about a new (first time) OCI card that I just received.
November 21, 2022 (Monday): After completing my online application, mailed my documents to the Consulate in Atlanta.
November 22, 2022 (Tuesday): Your application is being verified and currently under process at the VFS Indian Consulate Application Center..... (This is what the status would say on VFS Track Your Application Status Webpage).
November 23, 2022 (Wednesday): Your application had been processed at the VFS Consular application center and currently is "In-Transit" to the Embassy of India/Consulate General of India for decision making..... (This is what the status would say on VFS Track Your Application Status Webpage).
December 16, 2022 (Friday) at 3:12pm: Your document (s) is dispatched using the return label purchased or sent by you......... (This is what the status would say on VFS Track Your Application Status Webpage).
December 16, 2022 (Friday) at 3:12pm: I received a text message on my cell phone stating the same as above i.e. your document (s) is dispatched using the return label purchased or sent by you.
December 17, 2022 (Saturday) at 11:08 am: I received my OCI card through FedEx
Note: The website for instructions for OCI is really disorganized and very bad!
It does not ask for a letter of consent (i.e. you allow them to make any changes/corrections to your application). However, the letter of consent is necessary (!). Therefore, make sure you add it to your documents otherwise they will hold your application until you send it within a few days.
Also, despite uploading your photo online when you generate/create your application, you must also mail two passport size photos with you application packet otherwise they will hold your application until you send it within a few days.
