Should one just apply for Visa also if one are applying for OCI card
It seems one should also apply for Visa if one is applying for OCI as the freaking process is takes way too long. Its expected of applicants to get OCI card before making travel plans which can mean applying for 5-6 months prior to your travel date. Also seems like SF consulate is the worst.

After waiting for over 2 months I'm thinking of applying for tourist visa for my kid and collecting OCI card after my India visit. Here are the timelines -

Application submitted in person at CKGS SF - 04-MAR-2015
Delhi consulate Date Of Acknowledgment 06-MAR-2015
Documents Printing Status PROCESSED On 05-MAY-2015
Dispatched From MOIA (OCI ) NEW DELHI On 08-MAY-2015

SF consulate applicants can you pls share if 3-4 weeks is sufficient time to get the OCI card ? I'll be travelling in 1st week of June.

Thanks,
Ashok
