    EAD Renewal

Dorothy / Andie - have you sent out your EAD/AP renewal applications yet? I'm writing this on the fly so my apologies if you have replied to this question previously. It's going to be 3 weeks since I sent mine out to Chicago Lockbox and not a sign of I-767 Notice of Action from USCIS in my mailbox.

    Cheers!

      EAD/AP Renewal Application Status?

Posting an update on my EAD/AP renewal.
So I sent out my renewal for both EAD/AP together at 180 days to expiry date of my EAD/AP combo card.
I-797 for AP Renewal received 3 weeks after, somehow the EAD Renewal is still finding its way through the system.
I am secretly hoping that with the I-797 for EAD Renewal will lead to an Interview Notice shortly after as well.
Happy St. Patrick's weekend to all.

      Cheers,

        2018 Tax Filing

I have a question for the group regarding 2018 Tax Filing:

1.) I recognize it is important to establish marriage with AOS application by establishing conjoined finances including JOINT tax filing, but is it necessary?
2.) What if it makes more financial sense for me and my spouse to FILE SEPARATELY for purposes of financial planning? Is that something the immigration officer will understand?

Anyone input would be gratefully appreciated.

        Cheers,

My take on this, 1) is not necessary but is a good way to show 'conjoined finances', if you have other things (health, insurance, credit cards, mortgage, rent, cars, etc.), then 2) will be obvious that it makes sense, to your financial situation, that filing separately has an advantage. IRS gives the option to file one way or the other, USCIS should not impose one way if it means a financial disadvantage to your situation.

            Hello Seattle Filers,

Just updating everyone on our wait for the first interview schedule for conditional GC on AOS c(9) application.

So there was a general sense from other forum threads and in here as well about EAD/AP renewals, and how in some cases the application for renewal of EAD/AP triggers an interview schedule. Apparently not true in our case, we sent out EAD/AP renewals 180 days prior to EAD/AP combo card expiry date, and this is what happened:

1.) I-797C Notice of Action for AP Renewal arrived first 3 weeks after we filed
2.) I-797C Notice of Action for EAD Renewal arrived next more than 1 month after we filed

I also want to share that the I-797C Notice of Action are issued new MSC reference numbers so that means an additional two numbers to keep track of.

The upsides basically consist of (a) AP Renewal doesn't cost a single penny, and no action is required according to the NOA (b) EAD Renewal doesn't put you through another hoop with Biometrics as they acknowledge that your fingerprint records are in file and no further action is required as well.

            Cheers,

Just bumping up the thread to get anyone to update their status on awaiting first interview.

Just had our interview, which went smooth, casual and straightforward. We are Canadians and I work at a large tech company. Didn’t even need to show her our marriage or certificates… or ask even “how and when we met?”

Answered the usual questions “What is your name? Address? date of birth?” and job-related questions “What is your title? What is your duties?”
Then answered the long list of “Have you ever…”

No instant verbal approval but she told us, she will review the medical exam and additional documentation for her decision.
If it is approved or RFE, we would receive a notice in the mail and if all is good, we should have green card in our hands in a month.

She did subtly mention that USCIS could have an update this evening…

If you have a PD earlier than March 2018 and still haven't received an interview notice, we'd like to read from you.

                            Will appreciate reading from you.

                              Hey Yeahbuddy,

You have been quite patient there. So i'm assuming you are a Seattle Filer, and your PD was Dec. 2017 and its been 17 months since and you have no interview notice yet. I think you are ripe to make an Infopass appointment to check what's going on with your interview schedule. When is your EAD expiring?

Which brings me to a head scratching realization that maybe Seattle Filers really have to wait between 17 to 21.5 months for AOS processing.

Hope to read from you soon.

                              Cheers,

Correct, Seattle filer, PD mid-Dec 2017.

My EAD card had an expiry date of the end of April 2019. I have received the NOA for the renewal, so it's valid for another 180 days, but now no AP. I wish I'd sent my renewal in a little earlier. I didn't realise the automatic extension didn't apply to the AP.

Really hoping the interview notice comes soon. At the same time, my 2 yr wedding anniversary is in July, so also wouldn't mind waiting until after that so we get the 10 year GC!

eta: my status changed to 'case is ready to be scheduled for an interview' in March 2018.
