  • I-485 no status change but reopen decision

    Hello,

My I-485 (family-based) was denied beginning of May of this year due to a missing document, so a few days later I submitted I-290B motion to reopen, after which a few weeks ago USCIS decided to reopen my case, including the dependent I-131 and I-765. However, the I-485 still shows as denied and nothing changes. The I-131 and I-765 do show a reopen notice. No change at all with the I-485.

Does anyone have experience with such a situation? How long did it take for you after the reopen notice for I-485 to change status? Sometimes I see that it only takes three weeks after sending the 290B and getting the 485 reopened, but for me it has been more than two months. I am just wondering when the I-485 will change of status. I really need to travel soon and cannot do that because of abandoning my application if I leave. Yesterday I submitted a service request to inquire about the I-131 status but no reply. Hope I can get some experiences/answers on this forum. I often see the 485 gets approved the day it gets reopened, just wondering when that will be...

    Thanks for the reply!

Hi, what happened with your case? When did the status changed online? (if it did at all). I have a similar situation with yours..

Hi, it’s actually quite common for the I-485 status to take longer to update even after USCIS has officially reopened the case. Many applicants see updates on their I-131 and I-765 first, while the I-485 stays stuck on “denied” for weeks or even a couple of months due to system delays. Since you’ve already submitted a service request, that was the right move, and hopefully you’ll hear back soon. Most people eventually see the I-485 update without needing to take extra action. While you’re waiting, you can also find some helpful tools and updated app versions here, especially if you’re looking for something reliable to use in the meantime. Hope your case updates soon. Thanks.

If you have filed Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status) and notice that your case status has not changed, but you received a notice that USCIS has decided to reopen your application, it indicates that the agency is reconsidering your case.
