Reentry permit expiring

Hi,

I am a green card holder currently working in the UK. I obtained a reentry permit, which expires on 5th August this year.

Is it necessary for me to enter the US before 5th August or would it be fine for me to enter in later August or September/October?

I have an important work assignment which may hinder my travel before 5th August. Could this have implications for my permanent resident status?

Yes, you should enter the US before your reentry permit expires. Otherwise, it might be considered that you have abandoned your green card.

You have to enter before the expiry date (you can enter and leave multiple times before this). After, the document is invalid, and if you are still outside the US, you will be considered to have abandoned your status. Come earlier if you can't come close to the expiry date. When do you intend to move back to the US? How many RPs have you gotten? If this is your first, you can apply for another one when you come to the US, complete biometrics, and leave again.
