  • Not filed taxed while out of the U.S. with reentry permit

    Hi All,

I got my green card in 2013, was in the U.S. for about 45 days, got the reentry permit and went out of the country and then returned in 2015.
While I was out of the country, our income was about 3000-3500USD, and since we file our taxes jointly I thought it was not required to file taxes, right?

When I filed N-400 forms for citizenship, I checked "YES" on Part 12, Items 7.A and 7.B which say:
7.A: Have you EVER No not filed a Federal, state, or local tax return since you became a lawful permanent resident
7.B: If you answered "Yes," did you consider yourself to be a "non-U.S. resident"?

Does it impact my citizenship? If so, is there any way to fix it? Like filing past due taxes and give the immigration officer the tax return for 2013 and 2014?

    Thanks
