  • GC Received, should condition for Work Authorization be removed from SSN card?

I have SSN which has words 'VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION'.

Now that I got employment based GC, should I go to SSN office and have this removed? Is this is the right process?

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

You can get it updated (the process right now will involve mailing the forms and materials in rather than going in person). But if you don't get it updated immediately it's not a big deal (I know people who have still not gotten it updated years after naturalization). The only immediate advantage to getting an unrestricted card is that the unrestricted SS card can serve as a List C document for I-9 purposes, so you can start a job without showing your green card to the employer.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
