Forum members-
Thank you very much for all your help till date.

My mother went through her GC interview process at US consulate in mumbai earlier this month and it was all good.

brief stats
it took us 10 months in all from the day I sent the first paper USCIS. this includes an unnecessary delay of I would say 15 to 20 days since USCIS required me to send in my marriage certificate (go figure - I have no idea why would they need to see my marriage certificate in original to process my mother's gc?) I think every time they send you a query, trail gets derailed and then there is a setup time to get back to speed.

time spent at the consulate - 7 am to 11 am: 4 hours

touchpoints with consulate people once inside the consulate premises - 3

Meeting 1 - Indian male. very professional
Meetings 2 and 3 -
2 different Caucasian/white. both very professional, smiling all the time. asking all sorts of small talk family related questions while going thru the file. nothing major. however, they went thru each and every piece that was in the file.

those two american officers had a brief meeting after talking to my mom individually.
(meeting went this way:
1 "all ok?"
2 "all ok. yup. it's a std case."
1 "do u want to wrap this up then"
2 "okie dokie"

[ looked like 2 was a trainee or a new recruit. ]

green card granted immediately with a big broad smile on their faces.

Indian passport with Immigration visa sticker arrived via courier on 3rd day late PM(counting interview day as day 1)
