need help on my shameful act of shoplifting urgently

Recently in US (New Jersey), I was caught shoplifting worth $50 at Kohl's.The store security personnel got me filled a paper with my address and contact no. and took my signature and checked my PR card and told i would get fine mailed to my address. Am a PR of Canada and was on a two week vacation in USA to visit my sister when this happened. I returned to my home but now worry how will this affect my future travel plans to USA? will the US border store any information on this episode? and wonder what will the fine be like. Will they press charges ? all this is scaring me and giving me sleepless nights. I know I would never ever do this shameful act ever again but it so harrowing. Please advice me accordingly so that I can find some solution for my problem soon. I haven't got any mail from them yet. Its just been few days this has happened.
