Can I retire after getting EAD

Hello,

I was wondering if I get my EAD can I completely stop working without having to leave USA? Also right now USCIS is accepting EB3 applications based on filing dates. So if I downgrade my EB2 application to EB3 I believe I can apply for AOS immediately and therefore get my EAD. Will this mean that I will receive my green card only with EB3 becomes current. My priority date is 31st Aug 2009. As of now the EB2 final action date is 25th May 2009. Considering that the dates are moving about 3 days a month is it reasonable to expect that I will get my green card 33 months from now?

I guess that because you are AOS under EB category, you need to work until you get your GC, but I'm no expert. I hope someone has better information. Good luck.
