Green card for future based employment

Here's my situation:
My employer (a Fortune 50 company) has filed for PERM for me under EB-3 category. Now I have an emergency that forces me to be in India for couple of years and I am not sure if they will continue my GC processing.
I know there's something like Green card processing based on future employment. So my question is it possible for any company to file for GC based on future employment while I am in India? Or does the person need to be working in US?

If you can find such an employer, there is no requirement for you to be in US while GC processing goes on.
