  • Received USCIS letter - what does it mean?

I applied labor certificate in Sept 2002, and filed 485 on Aug 2006. I had two finger prints taken last Oct and Dec for I-485.

My case is at TX, so I called them to check the status since they are processing cases for sept 2006 already. USCIS sent me a letter as follows:

we are actively processing this case. However, we have to preform additional review on this case and this has caused a longer processing time. if you don't receive a decesion or other notice of action from us within 6 months of this letter, please call customer service at teh number provided below.

What does this letter mean? are they performing background check?

    Thank you.
    Ellice
