  • Green Card holders, but everyone except my wife allowed to work?

I immigrated to the US 9 years ago with my wife and children. My employer had sponsored me. My wife, our six children and I obtained permanent resident alien visas 'green cards'.
There were no employment restrictions mentioned on my card, or our children's cards. However, recently my wife has been interested in starting work and noticed that there is a statement on her card that reads not authorised for employment.
Why is my wife's card different to the rest of us? What can we do to get her authorised for work?

Are you sure you are looking at the green card?

The only place I have seen 'Not authorized for employment' is social security card.

Green card is by its definition allows person to freely work.

I have never heard about green card not valid for employment.

I suggest that you take an Info Pass appointment with USCIS and talk with them. May be you should apply for her replacement card.
