Visiting Professor-GC

For visiting professor with the possibility of reappointment, can GC be sponsored by the University? If so can it be started as soon as being hired or is there a waiting period of one year?Please let me know.

For being able to sponsor a GC, the employment would have to be permanent in nature. Visiting professorship would not be considered permanent in nature. If the University is willing to hire on a permanent basis, they can apply for a petition on that basis immediately.
