Applying GC, spouse's visa expiring, what to do ?

Hi All,
I came here on L2 and got H1B.
My employer is applying for my GC in July 2011. Husbands company not filing GC

My husbands L1A will expire and he would have consumed 6 years on it by Jan 2013. I know that once L1 is used completely, the person needs to go outside USA for 1 full year.
We are expecting and due in Dec 2011 too

Below are my questions
1) If husband has to go out of USA, can he come back on tourist visa or H4 visa (I will be in USA on H1)?
2) If 1 is Yes then will the time in USA on B2 or H4 counted in 1 yr stay outside USA (for L1 reset)
3) Any other way that he can stay here even after L1 completion ?

L1A duration is 7 years. Therefore, he can stay until then.

After that, he needs to go outside the U.S. for one year. If he comes back on B2 or H4, that time can't be considered outside the U.S.
