Marriage of a GC holder and and F1 visa holder ...What to expect?

Hy there,
With my bf we are planning to get married within one month. I am on F1 visa which is going to expire soon. My questions would be,
is there any legal way to stay here, with him (and not being housewife for 3 years or so)?
if we do not find any alternative solution after get married and I will be illegal what to expect from the authorities?
(I have found: if the fiancé will be an illegal situation not longer then 6 months and leave the USA, the return is possible within 1year, if the illegal stay is more than 3 months but less than 1 year, the return is not possible for 3years.)
Does one have any experience, information how these things are really work and what the solutions are?
