  • Sponsoring parents and brother

    Hi ,

This is from my friend who need some help.
    ===============================
I am getting USA citizenship this month. I already passed the interview.

I have my parent and brother in India, whom I want to sponsor.

    1) Can I sponsor my parents as well as my brother at the same time?
    2) My brother's current age is 19. I know there is some rules around age out. In what case, my brother would be qualify /disqualify the immigration benefits. ?

    Thanks in advance

    Sponsoring parents and brother

I think you can sponsor to get your parents but not your brother / sister.

But I have no idea how long it would take to sponsor your parent.

    Forum....., Any thoughts ?????

      I think you can.

I think you can sponsor for both your parents and brother once you become a USC. You need to have certain amount of money based on poverty guidelines to sponsor them.
The problem is that your brother may have to wait for more than 10 years to get a greencard. It won't take that long for your parents after you become a USC.
You should take a look at the visa bulletin from BCIS.
Your parents will be categorized in Family Based 1st.
Your brother will be in Family based 4th.

        Re: I think you can.

If your brother is under 19, he can get the greencard at the same time your parents get it. He will get greencard, not as your brother, but as the dependent of your parents. You will be able to get all 3 of you within 1 year of filing for them.

(Unfortunately, I am not that lucky. My own brother and sister are above 21.)
