  • Form I-864 Affidavit of Support; Joint-Sponsor vs Household-Member

My question is about the difference between a joint sponsor and a household-member. My husband and I currently live abroad in Germany, although I still utilize my US bank account and have a registered address for mail. Our income is currently obtained from foreign sources, so I know that we must use a US-based person as a joint-sponsor. I would like to use my father, who is currently living at my registered address and my husband's (the incoming immigrant) intended US address. Does that make my father a household-member? Or a joint-sponsor, because I currently do not live at his address.
    Thank you for the help!

Your household member's income is added to your income. A joint sponsor's income is not added with your income (unless you are his household member). Since you are using your father's income only and not counting your income, it would be simpler to have your father be a joint sponsor.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
