  • US government requires

    Hi folks:

First of all, I must thank you for running this forum. I've read plenty of useful info on this forum during the k1 visa process for my girlfriend from Belarus.

She's finally here and now we are quite delighted. The process seemed to be not as easy as I expected. There are various aspects that caused waiting in our visa journey. I would like to share them with you and hope that somebody will be able to avoid possible setbacks during this process if he takes my practical experience into account:

First, the US government requires a total final divorce decree. What I have included seemed to be a Divorce Nisi, which isn't a final divorce decree. As soon as the RFE was issued I had to secure a final divorce and send it back to USCIS.

Secondly, USCIS has requested a genuine statement of intent to marry from my fiancee. I assumed that a well-scanned copy will be enough, nevertheless, the RFE said that the statement should be original. And finally, we lost precious time because we were expecting the US Embassy to correspond with my fiancee by mail. Unsurprisingly, the postal service in my fiancee's country is not trustworthy and we haven't received anything at all. Fortunately, I have read this forum and discovered out that I can download guidelines straight from the website of the US Embassy and no specific wait time is needed.

We are about to get married in a few days and definately will start the process for the greencard soon!
