Is it possible to get OTP text messages on an India number in the US? Do not need to call or text anybody. Just want to be able to receive SMS based OTPs. If so which provider and plan?

Yes, Airtel, BSNL subscribers get SMS and OTPs in USA, if the plan is active and prepaid recharges are done. Someone pl confirm if JIO works in US to get SMS OTPs

My parents’ green card got approved last Friday at the Mumbai consulate. They’re traveling to the US on Sept 19 via France. Would they need a Schengen transit visa for a layover in France? There’s some confusion here because we know that green card holders don’t require airport transit visas but many people are telling us that it is only after we have the physical green card in hand - which won’t be until after my parents land in the US.

I lost 2 months waiting for login credentials from NVC after USCIS approved the I-130 and all it took to get was a simple email to AskNVC, hence want to try and be on top this time. Would appreciate your replies.

JIO prepaid SIM works in USA to get OTP. It is necessary to activate international roaming on My Jio app or on website in India before travelling. No need for any expensive roaming pack. Top up recharge over and above regular recharge can help to call any USA or India number @Rs 2 per minute.

SansInd since you mentioned Airtel: my parents paid for Airtel Prepaid 1yr plan. Do I need to do anything else for them to receive texts such as sign up for international roaming? They will be on Wifi at home and that is the only time they need the OTPs to come through.

michianders I have an alternative question for you. Did the beneficiary get the passport back yet? How are you tracking it? New system doesn’t allow it and there is not way to track it now. Please advise

My Parents attended the interview today and the process was couple of hours long as mentioned in previous posts. They gave them 221(g) asking for form I-864a. I am the only one supporting them using my income and my wife is not working (And not needed as sponsor as well). Hence I submitted the I-864 signed by me for both the parents. Now I will be filling and submitting the form I-864a with my wife.

Would help if anyone had a similar experience ?

Also worth to note that they were also asked my marriage certificate (sponsor's) which they did not carry. It did not create any trouble though.

Simply keep your India number activated. Vodafone charges 99 rupees for 14 days. Earlier it was 99 for 28 days. No need to get international roaming. For getting SMS you should have 15 rupees talk time in balance. Keep in mind that you should not lift any calls.

I 864a is a support from a household Member. Offcourse your wife is a household member but do you think her i864a will help since you said she Does not have any earnings on records? You can take support from any other relative or friend on additional i864. This is my own opinion, you may Confirm with some second opinion.
