  • Need Info

    Hi All,

My baby is a USC and holding PIO card.Right now she is in India.

I know that we have to register the baby before the 6 month stay in India.
In the next week my parents are registering baby with foreign registration officer.

Here my question is ..Is my baby physically needed for registration or not?

    Thanks

No registration is required for babies.

Therefore, the question of baby being present is not applicable.

      Hi Immihelp,

      Thanks for ur prompt reply.
Iam getting confused with ur response and PIO card info provided by your site.

I got the following info from your site only..Check this

In the event of continuous stay in India of the PIO Card holder exceeding 180 days, he / she shall have to get himself/ herself registered within 30 days of the expiry of 180 days with the concerned Foreigners Registration Officer at District Headquarter.

      Waiting for clear Explanation
      Thanks,
      Sun.

          Registration is compulsory

          Hi
I checked the registration matter with indian consulate ,SFO. They told me that registration is compulsory for babies holding PIO also.

Now i need some more info.

yesterday my parents went to SP police. They took all the required doc's along with baby to FRO.

"In the SP office they took 1500 RS fee[chalana] for registration".
Iam wondering about this fee for Registartion?
[Some of my friends told that there is no fee for registarion..]

My baby does n't violate any rule at the same my parents went for registration before the 180 day period.

Iam wondering why they charge for simple registration?.

Please any one throw some light on this. How to deal this matter?

          Thanks

Ok ... seems you are not familar with India as a "rich" person (NRI = rich). In order to get anything done you need to pay. 10 years ago I went to CBI to do the same in Mumbai and had to pay Rs400 to the chaiwalla for a Rs10 manila file to submit my registration papers. Hahahaha. I wasn't amused at the time though, so I sympathise. What can you do?

OCI will be implemented in a month hopefully, so that does not require registration. Interesting payments have gone up with inflation.

PS - This corruption thing is really bad - I think NRIs/PIOs/OCIs are in a position to push back on it. Would be nice if there was a corruption forum where we could look at POSITIVE ways of getting rid of this practice that keeps India from growing. With a small baby, you can't fight though - and this is an outrage. If any government official reads this take note - what are we doing taking use of old grandparents and small babies to fill the fat stomachs of these people who are meant to uphold the law?
