  • OCI do I need to re-issue after 50 if the new US passport was issued before I turned

From what I on the website OCI documents must be re-issued

    - who are 50 years of age or older, OCI registration certificate must be re-issued once after the issuance of a new passport.

I am turning 50 in November and have a new US passport issued last month (i.e: issued before I turned 50).

Am I required to re-issue OCI because I plan to go to india in December.

Its a pain but I think from what I read you need to reapply however I have read on forums that Immigration officers have let kids in even if they have OCI on old passport. I would recommend you to reapply(just change in particular form). The fee is less to do this but I heard the time process is the same which kinda sucks.

Thanks, but I don't think I have enough time now as I am planning to go on 2nd December and I hear it takes 90 days plus. Should/can I just go on the new e tourist visa as my duration is 20 days

If you don't have the time to do it, just take a chance and travel with both passports. The immigration folks in India are least likely to hassle you over not transferring OCI to new passport. However, some overzealous airline staff could create problems for you on the way.

I wouldn't advise you to go without updating OCI. E-visa is a very good option. $60 gives you piece of mind. I would take that any day especially in India.
