  • OCI/Visa Question - Needing to Travel in August and Just became Citizen of US

I just recently became a US citizen, originally Indian citizen. I have already applied for US passport and hoping to get it in next 3 weeks.

In the meantime, I need to travel to India in August.

What are my options in terms of applying for OCI or visa? What should I do in a short run and long run?

    Thank you in advance.

    just get visa right now

based on the horror stories in getting the OCI and timeframe,, i think you should get a e-visa for 30 days. all details are in link below. once you come back then u can go thru the OCI route for long run.

if you want a OCI eventually, you should apply visa and OCI + Renunciation. make sure you apply OCI +Renunciation at the same time before VISA. attach Indian passport ,Naturalization Certificate and receipt of oci+renunciation receipt on visa application support documents

Thanks for the link and the info. It appears that you can only apply for the eVisa 4 days in advance. In addition, if I am staying over 30 days, it would not be valid. I may end up extending my stay beyond 30 days. Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info. Are you suggesting that I apply for OCI and Renunciation at the same time while apply for the Visa afterwards? How long should I wait to apply for the Visa after I have applied for the OCI? The other suggestion was to apply for the OCI after I have completed my travel. Do you disagree with this? Can you explain the reasons?

I am still waiting for my Naturalization Certificate to return back to me from the US Passport Office. Just as soon as I receive it back, I am planning to file for the OCI + Renunciation. Please clarify as soon as possible.

        Thank you in advance.
