  • URGENT : PIO card question

    Hello all,

We are planning a trip to India in 3 days. Please help.

My son (6 year old) is US Citizen by birth. We got his PIO card in 2012. The PIO card is valid till 2027. But we did get a new passport for him recently which is not entered in the PIO card. Can we still use the PIO card ?

    Thanks,
    Sam

Yes as long as you travel within the expiration date on the PIO card, Passport number linked to the PIO card, and a valid passport. Despite the request for PIO to OIC mandatory, but the fact is the PIO card also the official document issued by the Government, you have your right to travel on your PIO card if the PIO card is issued for Life time lenght, is same is OCI for travel.

      Another question here:
PIO for minor- travel Date is within the expiration date on the PIO card which is hand written . Returning before September 30, 2018. (machinable issue)
Passport mentioned in the PIO expired. Have new Passport.
Can son travel in this status . Please guide

Don't forget to take the old expired passport linked to the PIO card. That is how it works.

If possible, start the new OCI application in India for the minor and get it done soon. OCI in lieu of PIO should be easier than new OCI. Cost is same. Don't wait for last minute. May be there will be a new rule saying no more in-liue-of process and have to apply new. God knows what Govt of India will do.
