  • PIO from Consulate in SFO - Help...

    1. Is PIO card a seperate card (like green card) or a visa stamp on the US passport?

    2. Required doc list from consulate (SFO) website says...
    A. Copy of U.S. Passport (notarized copy) [Page with particulars only]
    B. In respect of children born in USA, photocopies of Indian Passports [First Page and last 3 pages] of both the parents, duly notarized and photocopy of US passport of the child.

My understanding is... a notarized photo copy of US passport is sufficient and no need to send the original US passport. Can someone, experienced with the Indian consulate SFO correct me if I'm wrong.

    Thanks.

    1. I guess it is a seperate card(based on 2)

    2. Notarized copies are good. I just got it clarified directly from them.

If you apply in person, you can take the originals & copies and no need to get it notarized.

      PIO card notarization

Do we have to get each page separately notarized or can we get one notarization for the whole copy?
Getting each page notarized is expensive (3 folks * 4pages * $10). What is the way around this?

      thanks!

Received PIO card for my daughter from SFO

Received PIO card for my daughter from SFO.

Documents I sent to consulate in SFO:

          1. Completed PIO Card Application (Original) with photo
          2. Completed PIO Card Application (Duplicate) with photo
          3. Two additional Photos
          4. Money Order for $170 ($155 PIO Fee + $15 Mail back charges)
          5. Notarized Photo Copy of my daughter's US Passport (1st Page)
          6. Notarized Photo Copy of my daughter's Birth Certificate
          7. Notarized Photo Copy of my wife's Indian Passport (1st and last page)
          8. Notarized Photo Copy of my Indian Passport (1st and last page)

          9. U.S. Address Proof (Copy of Utility Bills)

For Indian address proof, I used the same address as in my Indian passport.

Received the PIO card in 2 weeks and 3 days.

The card looks like India Passport with just 2 pages.

            Hi craj,

Did you have to send original passports (either parent's or daughter's?)

I am not sure why Indian consulate in SFO asks for notarized copy of everything.

Don't have to give any notarized copies at Indian Embassy in Washington DC.

When they ask for a "verifiable address", are they going to somehow verify if the address given is indeed related to the person applying PIO?

Iam asking because... the address i have in my passport is that of my parents and they are here in the US now. Would that be a problem?

Applied in person(to avoid notarized copies) and got the card in 3 weeks and 1 day.

I don't know if they actually verfied the address in India.

                    Verifiable address for PIO card

What do they mean by verifiable address for the PIO card. My parents have moved residence and the address on my passport is now rented by the original owner to someone else. Which address should I put while applying for the PIO card, the current address of my parents or the address which is on my passport - but we have moved out from there.
