  • Spouse of PIO: What are my options

I am a PIO and my wife is not of Indian origin by birth or family. I may move to India for 2-3 years and she will be joining for part if not all of the time. I know she can get a long-term visa, but I am wondering the following:

    1. As my spouse can she apply for a PIO?
    2. If I become an OCI do I open any other options for her eligibility to obtain an OCI or PIO?
    3. Can she work in India? (Or I should ask what would she need to work in India?)

    1. Spouse of PIO is eligible for a PIO card.
    2. Nothing additional is gained for your wife if you become an OCI.
    3. A PIO card includes employment authorizaiton, so if your wife gets a PIO card, she can work in India.

    Hope this helps,
