change of birth date in indian passport

Dear Sir/Madam

Please guide me as to how the discrepancy in the date of birth in the Indian passport and the American greencard be rectified;the latter being based on birth cert. and the former founded on the high school passing certificate in India.The same has occurred due to non availlability o the birth cert. at the time of enrolment in formal education.

The concrete guidelines in the matter are solicited and highly appreciated.
