Can OCI holder travel to india with US passport that has 5mo validity?

I have OCI and plan to travel to India mid-july. My US passport is valid until end of December (> 5mo validity). I am wondering if anyone has any experience on whether the "6mo passport validity on the date of entry" rule will be enforced for OCI holders.

Answering my own question--in case it may be of help to others.. To begin with, India only seems to need passport validity during the dates of travel (they only need six month valid passport if you are applying for a visa--that to at the time of visa application). American and Birtish airlines confirmed this. Second, I also sent a mail to FRRO folks in India, and they responded saying all they need is validity of passport + OCI at the time of entry.
