  • Applying for new OCI card for minor

Applying for new OCI card for our 3 year old son who was born in the USA.
    • Do we need to send the original birth certificate with the application? Will VFS return the birth certificate with the OCI card?
    • For minors less than 5 year old, should a parent sign the OCI application form and get it notarized?

    Thanks.

You need to send in a copy of the birth certificate and use the child's thumb print is needed since they're 3 years old and below the age of 5 years old.

Did you see the very next line?

Also minors below 5 years a thumb impression is required. For minors above the age of 5 years, the applicant has to sign the form.

Yes, we had to get the thumb impression and get it notarized.

arnott - GoI OCI site says US birth certificate needs to be apostilled / endorsed by consulate in US. Did you do it? Or just uploaded copy of birth certificate as it is?
            • Evidence of relationship as parent/grandparent/ great grandparent, if their Indian origin is claimed as basis for registration as OCI Cardholder: The document of relationship could be “Birth Certificate” issued from competent authority mentioning both parents’ name. In case the birth certificate is issued by a foreign authority, it is to be Apostilled or endorsed by the concerned Indian Mission abroad.
