  • Social Security Benefits and Medicare

    Hello,
Has anyone applied for social security benefits or medicare for naturalized parents who have not worked in the USA? I understand that no SSI will be provided but what kind of Medicare coverage can such a person get? Are they eligible for the EXTRA HELP (for prescription drug program) or State medicare savings program?
Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the message. So he is eligible for Medicare Part A (Hospital insurance) but will have to pay a premium for Medicare Part B (medical insurance)?
How about Prescription Drugs? Does he have to pay for that as well or apply through state's medicare savings program?
Does becoming a member of AARP help with the premiums?
    Thanks.
