  • Health insurance coverage for a celiac child

    Me, my wife and my 2 years old daughter are going to go in California on July, as new immigrants (we won the DV Lottery).
    We were looking for an health insurance suitable for our needs for the first six months.
    In the meanwhile, we all done an health check and discovered that our daughter is celiac.

    So, we paused our search in order to clarify some doubts:
    - is celiac disease considered a pre-existing condition by insurance companies? We ask this because celiac disease is a food intolerance that does not need drugs or medical care but only a correct diet;
    - if yes, could you give us some advice about which plans may fit our situation or how could we cover our daughter?

    Thank you very much

    Any medical condition that she already has would be considered as pre-existing condition and not covered.

    You can find various plans for new immigrants at https://www.insubuy.com/new-immigrant-insurance/

      Thank you for your kind answer.
      I already know and get quotes on the link you told.

      I would try to explain better my doubts, if possible.

      - It is possible protect my daughter in any condition, also paying an higher premium?
      - Is my daughter unprotected in any condition or there is a case-by-case evaluation?
      - How is evaluated and who evaluates the relationship between a problem and a pre-existing condition?

      Again, Thanks and Regards

        1. No.
        2. Insurance will pay for any new medical conditions, injuries or accidents that may occur after the effective date of the policy. It will not cover any pre-existing conditions related expenses.
        3. Claims department of the insurance company determines it based on the attending physician's report and relevent medical records.
