  • J1 visa insurance

    Dear Insubuy,

    I’m an Italian student coming to Notre Dame UNiversity, South Bend, IN from September 2nd 2009 to March 1st 2010, for 6 months.

    I’m 28 years old and I’ll come alone.

    I’m interested in a Medical Insurance with the following features: I’m reporting the requests from the Notre Dame University.

    “J-1 visa holders are required to have medical insurance in effect for themselves and any accompanying spouse and/or dependents on J visas. The regulations are as follows:

    - At least $50,000 per person per accident or illness;

    - at least $7,500 for repatriation of remains;

    - at least $10,000 for medical evacuation to the home country;

    - a deductible not to exceed 25% payable by the Exchange Visitor or sponsor.

    Acceptable coverage may not exclude risks inherent in the activities of your Exchange Visitor program. The company providing the insurance coverage must have:

    - an A.M. Best rating of "A-" or above,

    - an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd., (ISI) rating of "A-1" or above,

    - a Standard & Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of "A-" or above,

    or a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of "B+" or above;”

    Before stipulating the contract I need a document certifying that the policy is respecting these points.

    Best regards,

      Thank you for the information,

      Now my question is:

      How can I be sure that your policy is respecting the ratings required by Notre Dame ?

      Can you send my a document certifying this ?

            You could contact the individual rating company to verify that it indeed meets the requirements.

            e.g., for A.M. Best rating, you could visit http://www.ambest.com register yourself and search for 'Sirius International'. You would see the rating.

            Similary, you can look for each rating company to confirm the rating.
            Thanks & Regards
