  • F1 Visa expiring - Colombian Student

    Hello-

I have a 17 year old Colombian student who is going to finish his 11th grade HS year in May. His visa expires in June. He is attending schoool at a private school which means he can be here for as many years as long as he keeps his paperwork updated with the school. I would like to renew his F1 visa so he can graduated from HS in 2014, but I am not sure how to go about it. Does he have to go back to Colombia to renew it or can we do it electronically, through the mail?

Can you give me some feedback......

I want to keep his visa current so he can travel to visit his family.

Visa is something you only need to travel to US from another country and hence it can only be obtained at a US consulate in another country.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

Yes, you are correct. I would prefer to keep his visa current so that he could travel back to visit his family. So what you are saying is that he would need to go back to Colombia to file an extension on his visa?
