  • J2 expired but have valid I-20

    Hi everyone,

I am studying in the US under J2 visa.
My husband holds J1 and has to leave the US, so my J2 visa is also expiring soon (May 27).
However, my school just issued a valid I-20 for me (valid until August 14, 2015 - the last day of my study program).
The question is do I have to go to the 3rd country and apply for F1 visa? Or can I stay here to study since I have a valid I-20 (even though the J2 status has expired)?

    Please advise.
Thank you very much for your help.

I-20 is not a visa. It is too late to do a change of status from J-2 to F-1, you would need at least 3 months left on your visa. You should go home and apply for a F-1 visa.
