  • How can NRIs exchange Rs. 500 or Rs. 1,000 notes?

Due to recent ban of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 currency notes by Indian government, many NRIs living abroad wonder: Who can they get their Rs. 500 or Rs. 1,000 currency notes exchanged?

Please read /nri/ for comprehensive information.

I'll be going to India and have 15,000 old 1000 rupee notes. I dont have a NRO account for RBI to deposit the money and would like to know if I open an account now would that still be valid to get the funds transferred.

My another question is about PAN card or other ID that RBI require other than the Indian passport, I don't have any of that either. Could I still get the old currency exchanged successfully?

    Many thanks in adavance!
