OCI in lieu of lost PIO card

Hello,

I am applying for OCI for minor in lieu of lost PIO card in NY CKGS. I am little confused if I should send original US passport with initial physical application or just a photocopy. Last date to apply in this category is 31st December 2016 so any prompt response will be highly appreciated.

don't send any original passport other than the physical Indian passport for renunciation.

Just to update: I sent original passport and a photocopy of the same with application and I got OCI with passport in return few days back. My category was OCI in lieu of lost PIO card in NY jurisdiction. Total time- around 44 days.

Also, one of my friend did not submit original passport with initial application. A few days later he received email from CKGS asking for original passport and he sent using their Fedex service which costs ~ $15. The category was OCI in lieu of PIO card in NY jurisdiction.

Thank you for the update, Kushagra.
So with the new 2017 process in CKGS / CGI NY, you got the US passport back along with the OCI card only, and not earlier? Which means they get to hold the US PP during the entire process which sucks. At the time of submission, they told me I will get the US PP back in about 7 days, but it has been 2 weeks since.

At least the option they had in 2016 was better where one had to submit their US PP only towards the end, during the match up step.

Yes, they kept US passport for whole period.

Actually, since my last post, when we picked up the Renunciation Certificate, we got the US PP back as well. So, we got the US PP back in 14 days.

Ours was original application for OCI, and yours is OCI swap for PIO, so maybe that's why they held back your US PP longer? Still, since they got Courier fee from you for return of US PP, I feel that they should have sent back the US PP to you sooner.

Lost PIO Card from CKGS, Now located in India

Hi,
I applied for OCI card for my daughter (born in 2008) and sent the application to CKGS. Due to family emergency my wife went to India along with my daughter with her PIO card. After a week CKGS asked me to send her original PIO card to issue the OCI card, and we sent the PIO card to CKGS. CKGS sent the PIO and OCI to my US mailing address, but i haven't received them (UPS) and i lost both of them. Now i am in India due to job transfer from US to India. Kindly let me know how to proceed with the OCI card for my daughter? Can i apply for an OCI card under "OCI in Lieu of Lost PIO Card" category? if so should i go to FRRO office in India (I am currently located in Hyderabad). Kindly advice.
