  • Job Change (I485J) after receiving EAD/AP, and travelling after that

    Hello,

I received my EAD / AP few years back. I am in EB2 India category. I changed my job last October; and in June of this year, my lawyer filed a I485 supplemental J form, to report to the USCIS about my job change under the AC 21 rule. I have a few questions:

    1. Although I received an acknowledgement for filing the I485-J form (received within 4-5 days of filing the form), I haven't received any approval yet. Do USCIS provide any such approval, or they simply update their database based on receiving my I485J form? My understanding is that I485J is an optional form, and one may choose to not inform the USCIS about job change (until he or she receives a RFE before I485 processing)

    2. I want to travel to India soon for a few weeks to visit my parents, with my EAD/AP combo card. My changing the job/filing the I 485J form to inform the USCIS about it/not receiving any approval for the same - can any of these factors have any impact when I return to US at the port of entry?

Thanks in advance for any reply!
