I was born in Sri Lanka. Both my parents were Indians living there. I got married to a Sri Lankan and got a SL passport. We went to Nigeria for work. We had to return to SL after the contract. Due to communal problems in SL at that time, we changed our plans and asked for asylum in Canada. We hold Canadian passports at present. Both my parents passed away many years ago and I have a copy of my mother's Indian passport. I was told by my friends that I will not qualify for OCI as I applied for asylum.
The fact is I held a SL passport when I asked for asylum. I did not ask for asylum as an Indian national. I felt that i should be eligible for OCI as my parents were Indians.
