  • Greencard Timeline - Houston Filer 07/2016

    Hello everyone,
This forum was very helpful in getting answers to various questions. Also I felt that the timelines submitted by other members helped a lot. Now that my first part of the journey has come to an end, I wanted to share my time line for getting a spouse based green card. I hope this can help other members.

I was on E-2 when I got married to a citizen and here is the timeline for filing in Houston, TX:

    07/01/2016 - USCIS received my I-485 and I-130
07/06/2016 - Accepted the fingerprint fee for Form I-485
07/16/2016 - Got notice for biometrics
    08/01/2016 - Got biometrics done
08/11/2016 - Notification that RFE was mailed out
08/29/2016 - Received the RFE (for my spouse's income)
11/02/2016 - USCIS received my response to RFE
    12/06/2016 - USCIS received my I-765
12/18/2016 - USCIS sent me notice they will use old biometrics so need to get new ones done
    02/23/2017 - I did escalation for I-765 online
    03/08/2017 - I-765 card was ordered (approved)
    03/09/2017 - Received I-765 (work permit for 1 year)
07/25/2017 - Received notice for interview scheduled
08/31/2017 - Interview was cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey
10/xx/2017 - Got letter interview rescheduled
10/19/2017 - Interview day, interviewer was very nice said would have approved I-485 on the spot but my medical was expired since its been more than 1 year and now they have the Flu shot requirement since we are in flu season. So he approved I-130 and gave me RFE for Medical
11/06/2017 - Got Medical done again
11/10/2017 - Mailed out updated medical
11/13/2017 - USCIS received updated medical according to tracking#
    01/04/2018 - I did escalation for I-485 online
01/13/2018 - Got email I-485 Case Status: Card/ Document Production

I had set up email/text message notifications so I would get updates right away. Sometimes the email comes a few days before the text message so make sure your email notifications are set up with myCaseStatus at the USCIS website. Once I get the greencard I have to prepare for the renewal after 2 years.

Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your timeline here. You mentioned you'll have to prepare to remove conditions on your green card in 2 years. When did you get married? Your case must have been adjudicated on or around 01/13/18. That's 1 year 6 months and 13 days since 07/01/16.

    All the best.

Thanks for your kinds words! I got married on April 2016 so I am assuming since I have been married less than 2 years (it will be 2 years this April 2018) that the green card I get will be the temporary (2 years one) and I believe I can file for the more longer greencard 90 days before this temporary one expires. After that I will have the opportunity to file for citizenship,

So you'll get your card right around the time you're eligible to file for removal of conditions. I suppose you can get started with that application then.

You are not eligible to file removal at 2 years mark from your marriage. Instead, you are only eligible to file removal 2 years from your conditional card get approved. If they approve you before your marriage reach 2 years mark, you will get conditional gc, and all the days before your green card get approved will not count towards the 2 years. So let's say, if your green card get approved on 1 year 11 months, then you will get your 10 years green card at 3 years 11 months after you get married, assuming USCIS is efficient enough to process it within 90 days.
