Job change in EB2 category

Looking for suggestions! Thank you in advance for the help!

I am in the EB2 category with the priority date from Dec 2009. The cut-off date as of June 2018 for EB2 category India is Dec 2008. My priority may become current by Oct 2019. I am looking forward to moving within the same company with a different job description. I was told that I would have to file PERM application and I could retain the same priority date. Would you advise the job change in the current stage of the process?

You should. PD movement is not at all a given, and you should not limit your career growth banking on it. This is especially the case for you, since your expected date is more than a year out, and your estimate of movement I would say is pretty optimistic.
