Social Security benefits in South Africa after green card abandoned.

I am currently 59 years old and might need to go take care of my mother in South Africa.
If I am out of the USA for more than 1 year I will lose my green card status.
At retirement age will I be able to receive my social security in South Africa if I have abandoned my green card?
