  • Want to go for tourisim : Visit Friend : Applied for B1/B2 instead of B2 : What to do

    Hello All
    Here is the summary :
Want to go for tourism : Visit Friend in NJ : Applied for B1/B2 instead of B2 : What to do ?

    2) Traveled using it once for Training in 2012 (15days)
    3) B1/B2 expired in 2017

I am a computer networking engineer (the folks who do your Routing/Switching in Data Center/Service Providers) and have traveled to other countried in last 5years for Business purposes.

So this time around, I intend to visit my friend in NJ for 5 days (After 7years)
    ANd
    I notice in my DS-160 I specified B1/B2 instead of B2

Since you already had a visa & never misused it - you have high chances getting it renewed.

You could have used dropbox (IWP) if you could have planned to renew it last year - pretty simple & straight forward.

For your Q&A, please tell the truth & you'll easily get your visa.

Got B1/B2 VISA approved today in Mumbai

      Hi All,
I had my B1/B2 VISA interview today at Mumbai
Pls note, questions are not in order

      Q) Purpose
      A) Visiting Friend in NJ

      Q) How many days ?
      A) 5 nights

      Q) What is your annual Salary ?
      A) XX lakhs/ XXK USD

      Q) Where does your friend work ?
      A) ZZZ

      Q) Did you hold a valid VISA in past ?
      A ) Yes

      Q) Did you travel to US in past ?
      A) Yes

      Q) Where ?
      A) Told

      Q) Purpose then ?
      A) Told , Training in XX City and then Tourism in NY

      Q) Asked me Purpose for this visit (again)
      A) Told

      Q) Do you have family in US ?
      A) NO

      Q) What do you do ?
      A) Told (my current role)

      Q) How long have you been with this company ?
      A) Told

      Q) How much total Exp u have ?
      A) Told

      Q) Show me your previous B1/B2 VISA
      A) showed in real passport.

Please note, Here are my observations
      1) Keep your answers to yes/No if possible
      2) The environment (Hall) in Mumbai, cant have 250+ people in queue and about 36 counters operating. So it is noisy.
      3) I had to politely ask more than 4 times, the Officer to repeat the question, as I couldnt hear him. Its perfectly fine to request them to repeat it
      4) The Officer was taking a lot of notes and asking me a lot of questions, many more than the 2 guys who were granted visa just before me. So internally my knees were weak, I was trembling inside, but kept a straight face.
      5) I carried heaps of documents, and none were looked at. But by all means, pls do carry all your docs to satisfy the Officer.

Overall, be honest in your replies, and dont show your nervousness.
Easier said than done, I was very nervous myself mid-way into the interview, as there were way too many questions asked for my liking.
