I am a student doing my Master of Engineering in Computer Science.
I did undergraduate as computer science as well in the U.S.
For a reason, I had a change of interest and I am willing to see if "Consulting", specifically "Management Consulting" would be a good fit for me and I am searching for a Summer Internship position for this Summer.
However, I am worried that CPT will be only granted for the field related to my studies. My school ISSO is saying that if the computer science approves it, they can process it for me but it might affect my status later on when I apply for my Permanent Residence or Green Card and etc...
Although it is a different field, I think a lot of things I learned as a Computer Science student does relate to problem solving algorithms and effective approaches in dealing with real-world problems.
I was wondering how this would work out and also, I am not really interested in Permanent Residence or Green Card, but I am interested in H1B Visa since I would like to work in U.S. for around 3-5 years after graduation. Would this hurt me in the H1B application process as well?
