I know that H1B for sure requires sponsorship from employers, but how about OPT? I had an interview with a company and my interviewer, who's actually an HR, told me that the company still needed to sponsor OPT and tell the government why they wanted an international student to fulfill the position instead of a student with citizenship or permanent residency. I thought OPT just came along with my F-1 visa and once I received my EAD after I applied, I should be able to work for any company without being sponsored. If OPT does not require company sponsorship, is there a legal document that I can refer to? Thanks!

OPT is a work permit that allows you to work for any employer without any additional permit or paperwork.
That HR person does not know. Ask them to talk to their immigration attorney.
Or show them the I-9 document requirements and show how you are able to fulfill that by choosing one document from Part B and another from Part C.Immihelp Support
