Traveling to India on Indian passport for a US born baby

Hi, We recently had a baby and are thinking of applying for Indian passport for him.
Does any one has any experience in doing this? Will we be able to make US to India trip for him on his Indian passport without any US Visa stamped on it.
Please share your experiences, it will be helpful.
