Travel to Bahamas on H1B extended visa with valid I94 visa but no stamping

My husband is on H1B visa and his visa got extended till 2019. We do not have stamping for the extended H1B visa (the current stamped visa has expired in Aug-2016). We are planning a cruise trip to Bahamas in Dec. Has anybody travelled with an expired stamped H1B visa but approved petition and valid I-94 to Bahamas? I learned there is an Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR) process to allow re-entry for such cases but the US Government website includes adjacent islands (like Bahamas) only for F and J visas, but for other visas they do not list adjacent islands.
