  • Taking a cruise with DS-2019 and expired visa

my wife and I are planning to go to on a cruise on Eastern Caribbean and before we book we would like to know few things.
We are Croatian citizens currently living in the USA on J1 and J2 visas. Our visas expire on Sep 18th, but we have an extension for one more year, until September 18th, 2018.

Issue is that we can't extend expiring date in our visas here in the USA and we were told that the DS2019 (Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor) is enough proof that we are legally here in the USA for another year.
I have found on the Internet information that as long as you don't exit "USA territory" you will be able to return with only DS2019 so my question is:
Is cruising to the Eastern Caribbean considered as being on the USA territory all the time or at some point we will dock at the port which is not USA territory and that will ban us from entering USA again cause our visa expired?

    Thank you a lot!

    Kind regards,
