Travel outside US with Kid

Hi,
My wife will be travelling with my Kid who is 8 months old.
My son is an US citizen, is there any no objection letter or anything which i need to give her before her travel.
I was told that if the kid is travelling with a single parent they need to give some documents while boarding the flight.

pLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE HAS GON THRU THIS BEFORE.

as far as ur kid has an american passport....it would suffice.
