staying out of country with green card

Hello, my mom has a pending I-485 application,but she's scheduled for an interview this november. She's planning to stay out of the country for about 8 months after she gets her green card. Is that possible? Does she need a re-entry permit? She has an Advance Parole, can she use that instead of getting a re-entry permit? Thanks

She should probably get a re-entry permit to be on the safe side. Plans can change. Her long trip will probably delay eligibility for naturalization. Especially if long trips become a habit.
